United Way: A History of Helping in Wells County

As volunteers continue to search for donations during its Small Business Blitz let's look at how that money helps.
Searching the United Way website reveals a long history of service to the Wells County community.
It began as a Community Chest evolving into Wells County
United Way in 1966. It is a locally governed, volunteer driven
organization with a board comprised of a dozen community leaders and three local student representatives.
United Way creates partnerships between community groups that all help to improve the lives of people living in our community.
Tonight they are beginning the first Getting Ahead classes, which offer lessons
in living. Complicated issues like meeting obligations at work while
balancing needs at home will be on the table. The first class is
tonight, but already there is a waiting list to enroll.
For many, one of the best things about United Way is the fact every dollar
contributed stays right in their community. Just like the money raised
during today's Small Business Blitz.
