YOUNG PILOT IS LIBRARY ESSAY WINNER

Nick Huffman’s essay describing his efforts to complete his pilot’s license training made him the winner of the One Book, One County Essay Contest at the Wells County Public Library. A student at Bluffton High School, Huffman received $400 from the Friends of the Library and community donations to work toward his goal of getting his solo pilot license. The contest required students to explain their science or math-related goals and how they related to the One Book, One County reading program selection, Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam. In Huffman’s essay, he wrote the excitement of his first flight and the hours he has spent in flight training at Miller Airport. He currently has 13 hours on his IFR sheet and the essay winnings should bring him very close to achieving his license. Presenting Huffman with his award is Teresa Dustman, head of circulation at the Wells County Public Library. (photo provided)
