Kohls Facebook fans can vote for 20 schools to receive $500,000 each

Kohls Department Stores Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Kohls Cares Program by Giving $10 Million to Schools

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., July 7, 2010 Kohls Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) today announced a contest to give half a million dollars to 20 schools each this year, a total of $10 million, in recognition of the companys 10th anniversary of its Kohls Cares philanthropic program that supports childrens health and education. As kids are getting ready for the new school year, Kohls wants to inspire students and school supporters to dream big about what their favorite kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) school could do with half a million dollars - whether its starting an art program, creating a new computer lab or saving a music program. Today through September 3, 2010, visit www.facebook.com/kohls ( http://e2ma.net/go/8430823823/2931072/96275265/38965/goto:http://www.facebook.com/kohls ) to tell us what your school could do with the funding, cast your votes, get more information and view the Official Rules.

At Kohls we are excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our Kohls Cares philanthropic program by giving back to the communities that we serve. As kids and parents think about the new school year, we want everyone to dream big about how half a million dollars could impact their favorite school, said Julie Gardner, Kohls executive vice president and chief marketing officer. We believe that when communities thrive so does business. We feel so strongly about this program and the positive effect it could have that we have made it the cornerstone of the companys Back-to-School campaign.

The $10 million donation comes from the Kohls Cares cause merchandise program, which sells special merchandise, including plush toys and books, and donates 100 percent of the net profit to benefit childrens health and education initiatives nationwide. Over the past 10 years, the Kohls Cares cause merchandise program has raised more than $150 million for childrens initiatives. This contest is the latest illustration of the companys commitment to kids.

During the contest, Kohls Facebook fans, currently more than one million strong, can vote for public or private schools that serve K-12 students by visiting www.facebook.com/kohls ( http://e2ma.net/go/8430823823/2931072/96275266/38965/goto:http://www.facebook.com/kohls ). Fans can submit their ideas for what the school could do with half a million dollars. A winning school must have a least one submission about how the funds might be used. Fans can also vote up to 20 times for their favorite elementary, middle or high schools during this time, with a maximum of five votes for any individual school. The top 20 vote-getting schools, that meet contest criteria as outlined in the Official Rules and have school officials provide information on how the school will use the money to support educational programs or initiatives, will win $500,000 each. Winning schools will be announced in late September.

This program is the heart of the companys Back-to-School campaign and will be supported by national advertising, direct mail, digital marketing, public relations and more. Components of the campaign include:
Online/Digital components: Coinciding with the program launch, the contest will be supported with Facebook advertising and e-mails to Kohls customers.
In-store presentation: Starting today, Kohls customers will see the contest promoted in Kohls stores nationwide through store signage, receipt messaging and more.
Television advertising: National and Hispanic brand spots will begin airing in July and run through the end of August.
Print advertising: Inclusion of the contest in Kohls print advertising will start in mid-July and run throughout the voting period.
Direct mail: Kohls will reach customers directly through various direct mail pieces starting today and continuing through mid-August.
Kohls is committed to giving back to the communities it serves. In addition to the Kohls Cares cause merchandise program that supports this contest, Kohls philanthropic programs include, a scholarship program that has awarded more than $2.2 million in scholarships and prizes and will donate an additional $410,000 to kids this year, Kohls associate volunteer program that donated more than $10 million to nonprofits nationwide last year alone, and a fundraising gift card program.

Please vote for F.C. Joyce Elementary School in north Highlands (Sacramento County) California. This school is located in California's state capitol, yet the young children who attend have an extremely difficult time just getting to and staying in school! Because the children and teachers have such a beautiful relationship, the children continue to learn despite the varies obstacles they face. most come from single parent homes where there are no fathers and the parents are mere children or teens themselves. Drugs play a huge part in their communities, yet they come to school everyday to learn, and achieve extremely high grades!
School, teachers, the community are what they see as there hope for something better. They work on computers and are very, very bright despite the problems they face.
These children deserve a break so their dreams can become reality! Please vote and help! Thank you so much! They appreciate you a lot! And will be happy to tell you so themselves (smile)!

Hillcrest Public School for Exceptional Children in Marion County, FL. could be compared to a rare and vanishing specie. When State funding amounts and teacher's salaries are based on students making high grades on FCAT; this type of school ends up with little funding, simply because the attending students are special needs students whose parents would be overjoyed to hear them speak, read, or write at all! This school continues to pursue life skills for its students, and any financial contributions would assist them in finding new and better ways to do so.

Please, I want to vote for Lingerfeldt Elementary in Gaston County School District in North Carolina. My grand daughter goes there. The school sure could use the money for supplies for the teachers and for the students. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. And maybe no field trips will cancelled because of not enough funds.
Thank you,
Cathy Carpenter

Please vote for Frontier Middle School in the Wentzville School District. After proposition 3, our families have to pay higher property taxes to expand our schools. At frontier middle, we have to add another team to our 7th grade, forcing us to cram kids together to learn. I am going into 7th grade, and I don't want to have to go through this. So please, vote for Frontier Middle in St Charles, Missouri! :)
