Norwell High School received word this week two of its students had tested presumptive positive for the H1N1 virus. Because the seasonal flu is not very active during the summer months, individuals with flu-like symptoms are assumed to have the H1N1 virus because it is the one that is currently active. But no individual tests are conducted.
Wells County Health Department was notified by NWCS and notice was sent home to parents advising them to take safety precautions such as proper hand washing and courtesy when sneezing or coughing in public.

But really, there is little else to be done. At this time the Center for Disease Control, in Atlanta, considers H1N1 a mild flu. They estimate in the United States alone more than 1 million people contracted the virus last spring. As of July there had been only 302 deaths attributed to H1N1.
If you are concerned about H1N1 and want more information try visiting the CDC Facts and Figures site or the World Health Organization section on 'Swine Flu'.
