Southern Wells Elementary held their annual Spelling Bee on January 19. Alex Morales (left) was top speller with Vanessa Drennen claiming the runner-up spot. Alex spelled the word “intersect” correctly to win the Bee. Both will move on to the county spelling bee February 13.
Twenty students from the fifth and sixth grade competed for top honors at Southern Wells. The finalists were: Jacey Dunnuck, Kelsea Boughman, Allyson Hamilton, Hunter Schreiber, Cameron Dalley, Megan Fiechter, Tanner Thompson, T.C. Perry, Jacob Swanson, Jessica Hartley, Jessyca Baumgartner, Vanessa Drennen, Mercedes Stevens, Bryant Bradler, Kory Miller, Alex Morales, Samantha Ramseyer, Brooke Gephart, Emilee Junk and Sara Crickard.
